Is one of the best substrates for marine aquariums and strongly recommended.

0.2-1.2mm diameter grain size (approx.) Also known as "Oolitic sand", this product is ideal for shallower beds, allowing denitrification in as little as 1" depth. The fine grain size can pass easily through the gills of gobys and other sand-sifting organisms. The smooth round grains are gentle to soft bellied sharks and rays. White in color and metal free, no ash or silica.

This is from our own farm sand beds and is what we use to start new tanks as it so biologically rich. It is ideal for seeding new sand beds or plenum system where you simple need to mix it with the new bed to speed cycling and help seed the dead sand.

The sand is a mixture of the calcious sediment from our rock bins and a clean fine grain sand. We do not sell this sand as being full of critters as shipping in sand is not a vialble method to keep fauna alive as it is crushed and abraded during shipping. If you find macro life in the sand then it is a bonus.


But if you want to get your sand bed up and running quickly then a couple of kilos of this stuff works just fine for us.

Ultra Fine Marine White Sand

A DSB is great way of helping to export nutrients and increase tank diversity? This ultra white sand is ideal for providing the finest sand particle size. Its allows burrowing snails and fine cukes to pass the sand and keep it in good condition. As a very light sand this is better mixed 40/60 with the Aragonite sand on this page, to give a broader range of particle sizes and some weight.

Every year we cure many tons of Live Rock on the Farm. Farm Grunge is the small fragments left from this process. It is not sand but as we only clear the bins every six months this product is as bacterially rich as it comes. Size varies from small chips to pieces a couple of inches long. We have historically used this along with the cultured sand to set up new tanks, but these days we have all our tanks set-up so we are know able to offer this very useful product to our customers. We recommend mixing a couple of Kilos into a new sand bed. It is so rich in micro critters that if fed with phyto plankton it will create a swarm of new life. See the images. The coarse nature of this media mean that it is also very useful for preventing deep sand beds from blowing around the tank when high levels of water movement are used.
